Road Trip!

We tore down the highway on Friday afternoon and got to North Carolina around 2:30am. We were SO happy to be there!

Matt's birthday was May 3rd and I think it was a pretty good one for him. At least I hope it was. I got him these awesome wireless speakers. We're going to mount them over our patio/deck in the back. Otherwise Matt spent his day drinking beer and laying on the beach..... or maybe he was passed out on the beach... you be the judge.

Katie had to take a laughing pose with him and unfortunately he woke up to us giggling at him. hehe. :)

After that we went back to the house and Matt's Mom Steph made everyone some delicious Key Lime Martini's. They were SO good.

Katie got the 'mini me' glass. :) After our afternoon drink we got the dogs together and took them for their first walk on the beach. They loved it! Bruiser and Cricket were a little scared of the water but easily warmed up to it.... after we threw them in of course!

We later got ready to go to dinner and went to the Deckhouse. It was so yummy! (sorry no pictures from the deck house)

Our week was pretty much spent just like our first day. We'd get up, have breakfast, go for a bike ride (or Matt would play golf) and go to the beach. The weather was gorgeous most of the time we were there. It was ahhhhh so relaxing!

So the main reason we were down there was for Katie's graduation. She graduated from UNCW. On the night of her last exam we took her out on the town for a little celebration. It was a Tuesday night so downtown Wilmington wasn't really happening but we did find this fun theater that was putting on an improv show... so we decided to go in and check it out. I'm so glad we did! It was hilarious and Matt had to get up on stage and perform! haha! It was great. The actors asked if anyone would like to volunteer for the next skit. Seeing as how Katie was going to be graduating Matt thought it would be funny to pick on her so he was pointing at her as a 'volunteer.' Well the actor guy said something like - you know when you point at someone like that you're going to be the one that has to come up. So he got dragged on stage.

Here are some pictures of Matt's acting debut.... haha! sucker! :)

Yes he is totally proposing to the guy above. They were pretending to be at a candle lit dinner. He was definitely a good sport about it!

My favorite times were our bike rides. They were so fun and relaxing.... we thoroughly enjoyed them. Here are a couple of pictures from the Kure beach pier.

One night for dinner Stephanie and I went and got two bushels of blue crabs to eat for dinner. We went out to the hicks to get these babies! It was a little po-dunk dock that sold crab, oysters, and shrimp (I believe). The guy that helped us was really nice. A little off his rocker but still fun to talk to. He had this tattoo on his fore arm of a scorpion and at first we thought it was a crab because that's what he does but he explained that he got the tattoo so if he was drafted in the army he could be nicknamed 'Scorpion'.... uh... ok. hmm, and when was the last draft? exactly. Anyway it was a learning experience trying to eat those blue crabs! You had to crack them a certain way then dig here, and put your fork there.... so much work! But the meat was so good!

It was a complete mess. My hands smelled like crab for 2 days! Nice.

One day we took a ferry over to South Port. They had all of these great little antique shops and there was a HUGE Christmas house. Not a store - a house. It was gigantic. We bought ourselves a little ornament that said South Port, NC. We went in this one store that had lots of souvenir type things from way back when. Remember when you used to get a collector's glass with a McDonald's happy meal? Well check it out.

Yep, it's the Smurfs! They had a TON! I loved it. They also had a Martha Stewart Weddings catalogue from the 80's. Trust me she hasn't changed a bit since then. Overall it was a fun little trip.

The week flew by and all of a sudden it was our last day there and Katie's graduation day. It was a very nice graduation. Short and sweet. :)

Here's Matt with his cousins - Katie and Kelly.

The ride home was pretty uneventful. It rained the ENTIRE way!!! AH! The whole ELEVEN hour drive was nothing but rain. Sadly we did not bring the sunshine home with us. The pooches were great though. They slept the entire way home. They were so cute!

Now it's back to reality and back to work!! yay...
